Four Colorado Elected Leaders Praised Nationally
Mayor Webb, State Reps. Grossman, Hagedorn & Veiga
 Lauded as “Ones to Watch”

Denver Mayor Wellington Webb, State Reps. Dan Grossman, Bob Hagedorn and Jennifer Veiga are among those  named as “ones to watch” in a list of the top 100 New Democrat state and local elected officials across the country.  Each of them is featured in the special Convention edition of The New Democrat Magazine (TND), a publication of the national Democratic Leadership Council.

"At this convention, the DLC will focus on showcasing the impressive constellation of New Democrat stars who are hard at work in state and local government and politics," said DLC President Al From. "From their ranks will come the ideas and leadership that will guide the Democratic Party and the country in the future."

These four leaders are cited for making a difference in the lives of their fellow Coloradans:

Denver Mayor Wellington Webb: An internationally recognized “Third Way” leader who has made Denver city government “business-friendly” while aggressively promoting parks and other recreational facilities.

State Rep. Dan Grossman: State House Democratic Caucus Chairman and a strong advocate for innovation in criminal justice and environmental policy.  Also an in-house lawyer for a Denver-based high-tech company.

State Rep. Bob Hagedorn:  A leader in patient protection legislation and in raising awareness of the importance of intervention and prevention strategies in criminal justice.

State Rep. Jennifer Veiga: A fighter for auto insurance reform and innovative law enforcement strategies.

In conjunction with the release of the TND, the DLC will hold a special "Constellation" reception during the Democratic National Convention honoring these 100 New Democrat elected officials.  The special convention edition of TND and further information on the Convention event are both available on "New Democrats Online."

The Democratic Leadership Council is the idea center and elected official network of the New Democrat Movement.  At its heart are three enduring Democratic values: promoting opportunity for all; demanding responsibility from all; and fostering a new sense of community. In the past, the DLC helped introduce Americans to rising stars like Arkansas Governor Bill Clinton and Tennessee Senator Al Gore, and to new ideas like work-based welfare reform, reinventing government, and community policing. Continuing this tradition, the Convention edition of TND will introduce Americans to a new generation of New Democrat leaders and the ideas they are applying to solve the problems of the 21st Century.
