New Democrats Changing Party
Almost 100 "New Democrats" attended their precinct caucuses on April 2 as the first step toward advocating the expansion of charter schools and reforming the Colorado state government personnel system. The delegates will be advancing both issues at the Democratic State Convention on June 8.
If you are interested in a copy of both position papers or are a delegate to your county convention, please e-mail us for further information.

Among all state chapters, the Colorado DLC ranks first in the country for the number of memberships per congressional district. We appreciate that great support!

Coming Up...
The national DLC is developing a number of what promise to be fascinating policy proposals. "Answering the Conservative Challenge: Ideas for a New Progressive Majority" adapts the policy presentations made at last fall's DLC annual conference into a cohesive discussion of how to govern in this new economic and political age.
On "Tax Day," April 15, a major report on "why fairness counts" in taxation will be issued. The document serves as a prelude to a comprehensive, growth-oriented tax reform proposal coming later this year.
In addition, an insightful analysis of the phony Medicare debate and an economic review of various Medicare/Medicaid reforms, including our own, will be prepared. A major new environmental strategy for developing the next generation of policy approaches is nearing release. Work on preventing teen pregnancy shifts its focus to stopping sexual predators. Also in process are fresh agendas for urban empowerment and an anticrime proposal that extends community policing to rest of the criminal justice system.
