Senator Bob Kerrey Tackles Social Security
At a Colorado DLC Policy Forum on September 20, US Senator Bob Kerrey of Nebraska presented an innovative plan to increase the personal savings of Americans through changes in the Social Security system. Both Congressman David Skaggs and former Colorado First Lady Dottie Lamm supported the goal of reforming the federal government's largest, most popular, and most expensive program.
Senator Kerrey CO-chaired the high-profile Bipartisan Commission on Entitlement and Tax Reform. He is also a member of the Senate Agriculture and Senate Finance Committees. Lamm is the former First Lady of Colorado and Denver Post columnist. A member of the House Appropriations Committee, Skaggs served as chairman of the Democratic Study Group, the policy arm of the House Democratic Caucus.
Special thanks go to Senator Kerrey, Dottie Lamm and Congressman Skaggs for their thoughtful, provocative presentations. Democrats should support their leadership on this very important but tough issue.
The Colorado DLC also appreciates the efforts of the program moderator, Colorado DLC leader John Huggins and volunteers - Steve Flansburg, Steve Gutterman and Jim Pribyl. Without their hard work, such a successful event would not be possible.
